Christine is the executive director at Jua Badili Foundation (JBF). Jua Badili is swahili for know and change. The name buttresses the point that we can only change if we know. Jua Badili was established in 2020 with the aim of transforming the habits of the mind and heart by offering civic education to the impressionable minds of children, teenagers and youths. This way the change we crave for as a country can be grown and nurtured in the right soil which is the young mind. At Jua Badili we are also focused on providing legal aid to our most vulnerable citizens because we believe that the administration of justice is the firmest pillar of good governance. We also have an Advocacy chapter that focuses majorly on climate justice and male engagement in ending all forms of Gender based violence.
Jua Badili has a multi diverse approach on bringing civic education in bits that the young population can consume. To develop future responsible, honorable, patriotic and I engaged citizens we use games and activities, focus on values, teach basic government concepts such as voting and democracy.
We also encourage them to participate in civic life by taking care of the environment, the elderly and writing letters to elected officials to encourage civic responsibility. We aim to create "Badili value clubs" in primary and secondary schools around the country where kids learn national values, civic participation and debate current affairs.
Christine attained her Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Nairobi and postgraduate certificate in International development and Carbon Reduction measures and Green energy from John Academy.
She has 7 yr experience working with vulnerable communities in various counties and regionally. She is passionate about working with communities on matters behavior change, rights and obligations and justice. I am a firm believer in breaking of age old cycles of ingrained wrong attitudes towards corruption and governance, gender and tribal stereotypes and our environment. I hold the opinion that unless the issues of the heart and mind are addressed from an early age, the millions of dollars spent on the adult population on gender, climate and corruption sensitization campaigns may not achieve much. Children and young adults hold the key to transforming our society and it's my goal together with my colleagues at Jua Badili to midwife the birth of as many change ambassadors from our learning institutions.
